Meet the Marlins: Ted Brown, Director of Business Development

Ted Brown, along with Jamie, John, and Derek, has been with Big Marlin Group since the beginning. As the Director of Business Development, Ted spends a lot of his time speaking with clients, in meetings, and discovering marketing solutions. Let’s learn more about what Ted does at Big Marlin!

What is your professional background in?

“Entrepreneurial sales and marketing.”

How did you start at Big Marlin?

“John, Jamie, Derek, and I had worked together at a digital and traditional agency owned by a large media company for 13 years before we decided to partner up to start Big Marlin Group. We all wanted to find better ways to serve our current partners and open opportunities for new ones. It was a leap of faith but looking back I have zero regrets.”

What is your favorite part about your job?

“I like business development; it’s always been a passion. I like to meet different types of business owners and employees, find out how they make money, how people have grown their business, and learn about their experiences. But what I love the most is the team we have. It’s so rewarding watching everyone grow together and have an opportunity to build something so incredible together.”

What is the hardest thing you’ve had to do in your career?

“Leaving the old company to start this one. I had to get past the fear of leaving a secure position and building something from scratch with no guarantee of success. It was hard, but the reward has been nothing short of incredible”

What’s a typical day look like for you?

“The typical day consists of looking at and focusing on the budget, looking at potential opportunities and client relationships, communication with all of the clients and our team, and overseeing the opportunities for new development.”

What is one thing you want us to know about Ted Brown?

“My family is my passion. Having a daughter this late in life is a balance and a blessing. It keeps me young, but it’s out of the norm. Most people are in their 20s or early 30s when they have kids, but I started in my mid-40s. That’s my biggest passion and love, everything I do here is to give her the future she deserves.”
